It’s the end of another year of development to transform the text-adventure game that started it all into a playable game on PC desktops. While development is still in progress, a few important things have happened in the last quarter that changed the course of the game.

Before getting to that, first a thanks to the fantastic and supportive community we have for Age of Rust. Our community members are some of the best across the wide arena of gamers and blockchain enthusiasts.

Well, if you’re just getting caught up on what’s happened recently, here’s a quick rundown:

  • Moved from Enjin to Polygon
  • Rustbits are now ERC20 on Polygon and have been airdropped to everyone that had old Rustbits.
  • 50+ different NFTs that the game was going to use has been compressed down to 1 NFT.
  • Lastlight, Origin, Ankh, and the mission nfts will be re-created on Polygon and airdropped to wallets in Q1 2023.
  • Concept Art will reminted on Polygon in 2023.
  • Not impacted by FTX or other exchange failures.

Privateer Onboarding

The Privateer NFT is the replacement avatar-based token replacement for the older Enjin tokens. It also contains unlockable features to gain access to additional puzzles in Age of Rust. Early adopters and qualified early-beta players of the game will receive their Privateer token in advance of the game being released in 2023.

  • Ownership gives access to Age of Rust (full game)
  • Each NFT contains unique artwork in the theme of the Age of Rust universe and other upcoming studio games.
  • The NFTs contain unlockable metadata giving access to additional puzzles in Age of Rust.
  • Will be used for additional games beyond Age of Rust.

Major Game Changes

The game has had some considerable changes since the removal of the Enjin platform as well as some gameplay mechanics as well. Some of these have been removed because it didn’t fit the storyline, overall gameplay, or invoked the wrong vision of what the game is.

  • All “Play to Earn” mechanics have been removed. While the easter-egg type in-game treasure hunts remain, the reward-per-puzzle feature has been removed.
  • Microtransactions / in-game purchasing of items has been removed.
  • In-game items (scanners, weapons, etc) are no longer represented by a blockchain token.
  • Only 1 NFT/Token is required to play the game.

Next Portal Jump

With the New Year comes the next set of items to complete, including releasing the game.

  • Q1 — Send out the new 1155 tokens on Polygon for Mission tokens, Lastlast, Origin, Ankh, and Privateer.
  • Q2 — A new updated website and game trailer for the final release of the game.
  • Q2 — The final release of Age of Rust for PC.

Overall, looking forward to the New Year and wishing you all the best over the holidays and a Happy New Year to all.
